I am not part of any political party or affiliation but I do believe that big government sinks the economy and democracy of any free country. Big Governments tend to be inefficient and more controlling of citizens’ lives.

In Brazil, president Dilma Rousseff added a new minister to her Cabinet on Thursday, further enlarging a federal government whose rapid growth since her leftist party came to power a decade ago has increased Brazil’s heavy tax burden.

Economists warn that the increasing cost of government is to blame for Brazil’s tax burden, which at 36 percent of GDP is close to the average for rich OECD countries, but far too high for an emerging middle-income nation, economists say.

World Cup, Olympics, and now head of the World Trade Organization? Why not. These days, it seems like everything is happening in Brazil. And just like in Men’s Olympic Soccer, the final contest pits Brazil vs. Mexico. Brazil’s WTO permanent representative since 2008 is up against a Mexican candidate, a former senior trade negotiator, in the third and final round of a selection process set to wrap up this week.

It’s been a long time coming and it would be a well deserved seat for a country that has been helping (and it will for awhile) the world’s economy. It’s not that the Mexican candidate does not deserve the seat but the Brazilian economy is exponentially more important to the world’s economy than Mexico.
